Resumo


The purpose of this research was to determine how the tool business intelligence can provide competitive advantage to companies that use it. The process of making decision and the steps where the concept of Business Intelligence is used to improve this process have been identified and discussed with the interviewees. It was used a qualitative exploratory methodology, and data collected through interviews with middle and senior management of four large companies located in the state of Sao Paulo, three of them are multinational companies. The data analysis methodology was content analysis. The results suggest that the concept of BI provide operational benefits, the measure that streamlines the process of constructing information, making it available in timely manner for the managers to making decisions, providing support for strategic planning. It was shown that this flexibility in obtaining the information makes it easier and increases assertiveness in decisions made by managers. Competitive advantage derives from usage maturity, but the operational advantage is felt immediately the execution of the tool.
