THE BANKING INDUSTRY AND THE STRATEGY OF INVESTIMENTS IN TI: INFLUENCE IN STRENGTHENING OF BRAZILIAN PRIVATE BANKS – BRADESCO CASE

Resumo


The Brazilian banking industry strategically has invested strongly in IT (Information Technology) in the last ten years and it is no doubt the industry that invests more in TI in Brazil, and these investments are continuous and growing. In this scenario, in Brazil, there are 05 banks (03 private and 02 publics) that hold more than 60% of assets, profits, employees and branches. Based on this, the objective of this article is to identify the investments done by Brazilian Banking Industry in the last ten years (from 2000 to 2010) and at same time identify the strengthening occurred in this period specifically in one of the three biggest private banks of Brazil, the Bradesco bank and verify that this bank was one of the banks that more invested in IT in the analyzed period. Using documentation research and with the support of literature revision, some numbers are pointed to reveal the growing and continuous investments in IT and the strengthening in the analyzed case of Bradesco. As conclusion it was verified that the tendency is to continue investing and that the analyzed bank has experienced in this period a strengthening very important. Consequently, probably the investments in IT continue being part crucial of the Brazilian Banking Industry Strategy.
