Resumo
This paper reports on a survey research aiming at assessing users’ satisfaction with Hospital Information Systems (HIS). It draws on the answers of managers of eight hospitals in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte (Brazil) to a questionnaire assessing HIS major features and major information limitations and potentials for decision making. The analysis of multiple-choice, Likert-scale questions aimed at establishing correlations between users’ scores for HIS features and their overall assessment of both systems and their information content. The analysis of short-answer questions aimed at identifying general elements of users’ satisfaction with the HIS they used. Respondents assessed most of the features positively, but few of the features were assessed as “very good” and there was also negative assessment for the features integration, rework, accuracy and consistency. This indicates that, although the HIS meet users’ daily needs and/or general expectations, they can still be reasonably improved. Furthermore, since most respondents assessed HIS information as either “good” or “very good” and the HIS themselves as “satisfactory” or simply “good”, we conclude that users’ satisfaction with HIS-generated information is higher than their satisfaction with the systems themselves, which still demand improvements in their functionalities and interfaces
