This article presents a definition of business models to implement a new kind of document to control the retail sales of São Paulo State, through the introduction of new technologies. The project aims at a paradigm shift in the generation of fiscal documents, where the document exists in an electronic format and is valid only if stored in databases managed by the “Secretaria da Fazenda do Estado de São Paulo” (SEFAZ-SP). The study was made analyzing the current environment of “Nota Fiscal Paulista” and other projects of electronic documents implemented by SEFAZ-SP, and presents a new type of document issued using the new concept and technology.
