Strategic management tools for high-tech entrepreneurs: uniform tools and different perceptions

This article discusses the understanding and use of strategic tools in the administrative practice of micro and small entrepreneurs. They avoid tools through ignorance or their lower utility? Does any change in order of preference would take place whether entrepreneurs knew those tools in advance? Five high-technology entrepreneurs were interviewed. Results show that micro and small entrepreneurs did not get to know strategic management tools. Ignorance may be a major cause for high demand and low use of those tools by the interviewees. When a prior explanation of those strategic management tools was given to the entrepreneurs, there was a change in the order of preference. This shows that the dominant ideology in academic discourse and in large companies do not positively influence the entrepreneurs, because their ignorance on the use of tools of the field of “formal strategy”.
