Resumo

Frequently Colombian craftsmanship communities are groups of self-supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), more even if they are located far away of industrial centers. This article exposes a project that focuses in the usage of information technologies (IT) as tools to make stronger a craftsmanship community, Guacamayas community, in order to build up an entrepreneur association- a cluster. We propose using IT to achieve faster transformation of a SME group into a cluster. This, we believe, empowers the community and generates a new reevaluated sense that emphasizes collaboration, raising living standards and fortifying the roots of the community. We begin by looking for communication and qualification channels to break down cultural and geographical barriers separating the community from knowledge and development; those channels are best built using IT in process of the communitys value chain. Particularly, the community has no information about other markets, neither about market channels; currently their only channel is direct selling in-situ. Marketing sales and service now-a-days is completely is not part of their value chain, leaving most profits to third parties. We conclude by analyzing how IT can help generate high-quality conditions to build up the adequate environment to develop a craftsman cluster that fortifies the region.
