Última alteração: 2015-01-07
Resumo
Companies in all sectors of activity need information systems to accomplish their activities, and can obtain them by internal development, outsourced development or by acquisition of commercial software packages. Traditionally, bigger companies opted for internal development, while smaller companies opted for the acquisition of packages. This, however, has changed with the evolution of ERP systems. The objective of this paper is to study the different choices for information systems development and acquisition in organizations, considering both company size and system type. Initially, concepts related to information systems use and acquisition by organizations are discussed. Then, the results of a research conducted with 333 Brazilian industrial companies are presented. The results allow the characterization of the information systems used by three different groups of companies (large, medium and small), comparing their choices of acquisition of information systems.
