Resumo

Effective IT governance allows organizations to succeed in implementing technological solutions that support their business. The SCAMPI evaluation method is used for identification of strengths and weaknesses, and classification of specific and generic best practices in software development processes. This article describes an evaluation of COBITs Project Management control goals in a large corporation of the Brazilian financial sector, aiming to find evidence of the benefits of having a project office for reaching those goals. The SCAMPI evaluation method was used for verification and documentation of the evidence found in the corporation. The PMOs performance was assessed in order to identify the degree of success attained in reaching COBITs Project Management control goals, along with the assessing and description of how the office operates to reach those goals. SCAMPI adoption was shown to be a very effective solution for assessment and auditing of software development processes, providing clear evidence of the satisfaction of COBITs goals by means of investigation of projects artifacts, resulting in better usage of human resources and the facilitation of the assessment work.
