In the knowledge age, organizations development and success are based, more than ever, on their capacity of creating, disseminating, distributing, sharing and using knowledge. Information Technology (IT) performs a role of support and infrastructure in the knowledge management, supplying technologies which enhance the knowledge collect and sharing within organizations. Thus, the problematic of this study is the verification of IT evolution stage regarding knowledge management support. The goal of this research was to propose a model to determine IT evolution stage regarding knowledge management support within organizations, specially in PIHE (Private Institutions of Higher Education). The adopted methodology consisted of an exploring qualitative research, and one case study. The several models proposed to evaluate the IT evolution could offer to organization managers a powerful tool able to determine the stage of current maturity and set an action plan in order to move forward in a higher level of maturity and based on that, reach the expected goals.
