Abstract. Currently there is a growing demand for quality and agility in software projects. Agile methods give strong emphasis on tacit knowledge and informal communication and have different practices that promote the transmission of experience and knowledge. However, the creation, storage and reuse of knowledge are not addressed by such practices. In addition, knowledge sharing does not exceed the boundaries of the team, favoring the creation of "islands of knowledge". Supported by interviews and questionnaire, this paper presents an analysis of the techniques and knowledge management strategies adopted and the challenges related to the lack of effective knowledge management by companies in the local productive arrangement of Recife, Porto Digital.
