Resumo
Innovation activities can generate competitive advantages and economic outcomes for companies. To be performed, demands data, information and knowledge about markets and consumers. The Web is becoming essential to innovation process, allowing knowledge gathering from different sources, which wouldn't be accessible in other ways. This problem sheds light to the question: How web technologies have been used to support the process of new product development, ie, to support innovation? The study aimed to identify, through a literature research, in which stages of innovation process the web technologies are being used. A few technologies appear more suitable than others at each stage of innovation. An extensive research of web technologies and innovation was performed using two databases (Scopus and Web of Knowledge). The searches were conducted with keywords related to web technologies, combined with the keyword innovation. The search strategy generated 1396 results (Scopus) and 1030 results (Web of Knowledge). The abstracts were analyzed by experts to eliminate those out of scope. Also matching results were removed. In sum, 133 articles were selected for full reading. The tables that show the intersections between web technologies and innovation process were developed based on these readings. The results show, for instance, the preference of co-creation platforms in almost every stages of the innovation process and small use of wikis. This work can assist in future research, directing theoretical efforts as well as indicate web technologies best suited for innovation in enterprises. Among the limitations of the study the use of only two databases and the choice of search terms. Therefore, it is recommended that future research use wider keywords and other databases.
